Wednesday:
Grandpa's theme for this day was Smokey the Bear, forest rangers, and woodland animals:

Listening to See Hear Read book about Smokey the Bear Then Grandpa gave Martin and Olivia a forest ranger, and some forest animals to complete their woodland animals collection.

Later we decided to pick the ripe plums from a wild plum tree on our land. Olivia went out sporting these very stylish glasses.
We made marmelade (jam) and plum preserves. Not to mention stuffing ourselves with wild plums. It's a wonder the kids don't get sick with all of the plums they eat from these trees. And Olivia swallows at least half of the seeds... Thursday:
We were so excited to get a call from SIL Michaela that she and the girls were coming for the day. Olivia was tickled to be one of the "big girls".

Franzi and Alex performed their latest pieces they've been working on on the piano, and then Olivia joined Alex "playing". Olivia was very pleased to get to perform with her sweet cousin. :) She kept smiling and giggling the whole time. Alex did great making her feel important.Friday:
Grandpa's theme for this day was Queen Esther. Here are the coloring pictures.
We dressed the kids up as King Xerxes and Queen Esther.
And the kids got two new figures - a king and a queen.
Do ya think Grandpa might have spoiled the children, a LITTLE? It was like Christmas. Of course it's always that way when Grandpa or Grandma come. :)Then Martin was very excited to see that his Bible Alphabet puzzle had both King Xerxes AND Queen Esther! :) He's pointing to them here.
My siblings and I used to do this when we were little. I thought it was neat that Grandpa carried on the "tradition" with Martin and Olivia. They thought it was great!
Friday evening Grandpa and I headed out to get some goodies to take home to Mom and Esther. Dad is standing in front of the beautiful town hall in Quedlinburg, the city nearest us. Then we all met for supper at a Turkish restaurant, where Grandpa impressed the children by killing SEVEN yellow jackets that kept on trying to get in our cokes.
I drove Grandpa to Hannover airport early Saturday morning. Martin was up in time to hug Grandpa goodbye. Later in the day he said to me, "I want to go to Grandpa, Grandma, and Aunt Esther's house tomorrow. PLEASE!"

Yeah! You are so blessed to have your folks visit even though they are so far away. I know your kids will remember the fun for a long time. (It's hard to be so far away, though, isn't it?)
this time around grandpa has less hair on his head for the kids to grab on to for the ride.
