This last weekend Christian's workplace had an open-house family day for employees and their families. I was sooo excited to FINALLY get to see it all - much much bigger than I had imagined. Christian's parents and brother's family came for weekend as well, and we had a great time (as always).
So, now that I've seen all of the machines, and some of the products I can explain a tiny bit better what exactly it is that my dearest DOES all day! :)
Not sure what kind of car this black one is (do not scoff at me), but Olivia and I are in agreement that seeing as Christian plays a major part in producing it, they could reward him with one as a thank you...
We took a tour of the plant. Martin is also very impressed by these huge coils of aluminum.
The simple version is that Christian keeps the machines running, analyzes problems that crop up, and programs the machines for more efficiency. These machines pour huge sheets of aluminum, which are rolled into ginormous rolls in different thicknesses, and cut to different lengths. These sheets of aluminum are used for everything from kitchen aluminum foil, to coke can ends, to major car body parts for big-name cars like the Jaguar. 
Smaller sheets of aluminum packaged and ready to be shipped to customers all over the globe.
The charts behind us were made by Christian, and the machine behind us is where he currently spends most of his time.
After the tour there were lots of fun things for the kids to enjoy. Carousel, face painting, giant sandbox, Hüpfburg (um, huge inflatable house thing for kids to jump in - not sure of the English name for this...) ANYHOO, they had a blast.
Franzi and Alex were at camp, and so partway through the day Andreas and Michaela went to pick them up. The kids were really happy when their cousins showed up.
These hugs below are for a VERY SPECIAL reason. Martin got a bike from his cousins for his birthday (went ahead and opened it since the big day is only 1.5 weeks away).
He took to the bike like a duck takes to water, and he has been riding it every chance he gets - literally HOURS each day.
Seeing his work reminded me again of this BIG answer to prayer God gave us 3.5 years ago.
1. Martin had just been born, and Christian's current job sent him all over the world (Turkey, China, Czech Republic) for MONTHS at a time. Before children I was able to accompany him, although the time there was anything but fun (6 day work weeks at 10-12 hrs. a day anyone?), but with a baby it was out of the question. The work itself was actually great (home office and colleagues were super), but we were burdened that we stay together as a family, so we started praying. God provided this job just after Martin was born - incredible timing, and clear answer to prayer.
2. Christian really and truly enjoys this work, boss, and coworkers. Not something to take lightly.
God has clearly and gently directed our steps into very pleasant ways, and we thank Him.
